We are proud of having provided the initial funding - through grants and the generosity of many of our members' donations - to enable Homestead Hospice and Shelter to open Pioneer Home, the Valley's first AIDS hospice. Our members and friends also provide numerous hours of service to the community through Southern California, especially a the annual West Hollywood GLBT Pride Celebration sponsored by Christopher Street West. The 2002 grant went to Gay & Lesbian Adolescent Social Services. At our annual LAGLCC President's Awards Dinner we honor both members and friends of the GLBT community for their accomplishments and contributions. Recent honorees have included pioneers Morris Kight, Ivy Bottini, West Hollywood Convention & Visitor's Bureau President Brad Burlingame; Lesbian News publisher Ella Matthes, and many more. We are forging alliances and working relationships with organizations vital to the strength and health of our members, such as the U.S. Government's Small Business Administration and its Gay and Lesbian outreach program; the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.; The Equality Forum; The National Association of Women Business Owners; and local organizations such as the Long Beach Community Business Network and the Pasadena Business Pride Alliance. Having completed 25 years of assisting others, of caring, sharing and building; and of promoting the economic strength of our business members; we recognize the important role we play in th growth and development of the gay and lesbian community. We all must be willing to meet and work with each other to share a part of history; to experience helping others, and to ensure a secure future for the next generations. |
